Aussiedoodle Coat Types

There are around two variations that occur in the texture of coats in Aussiedoodles. They may have either curly or wavy type of coats or hairs in which they inherited from the poodle. They may also have straight hairs with beautiful color patterns just like the Australian Shepherd.

Solid Aussiedoodles:

With the solid colors, there is only one color throughout their coat. There might be a black, brown, blue, red, or something like that, however these type colors aren’t as popular because people prefer the phantom and merle pattern

Bi/Tri Colors Aussiedoodles:

There’s a combination of two or three colors, black and white with phantom color is present that are really sought after. With these colors the base of the coat is mainly black and a little bit of white with tan on the legs, chest areas, and mouth.

Phantom Aussiedoodles:

  • Red Phantom: This is seemingly a dominant color, which is red and has a phantom (tan) color on the legs, stomach, and snout. This is very rare, and you should seek these type colors, most probably one or two in each litter.
  • Black Phantom: Another dominant color, black with tan color on the legs, chest areas, and around eyes looking like a red phantom with white patches on paws.

Teddy Color Aussiedoodles:

As the name indicates, very similar to the teddy bears and has black color on the base of the coat. Other colors may appear on the legs, around the eyes, and neck.

Sable Aussiedoodles:

Now, this is again a very interesting phenomenon, the whole coat appears to be black and dark but they are like beige or gray inside and the tips are black. This is a rare case and they get it by breeding a dark-colored Australian shepherd with a dark poodle.

Parti Color Aussiedoodles:

This term is used for two or more different colors. They may be black and white or what we call highlights of other colors on the legs, paws, or neck.

Merle Aussiedoodles:

  • Red Merle: A combination of features of red as dominant, and tan and gray colors are found on the paw or chest. Puppies are produced when breeding red merle Australian shepherd with a poodle of any light color.
  • Blue Merle: Mixtures of white tan and blue colors of Aussiesdoodles, gray just like red merle. All the puppies in a litter will not have the same color. Blue should be dominant and surpass all puppies if the parent Australian Shepherd is a blue merle.
  • Brown Merle: Brown color should be the dominant and tan or red highlights are present on the snout and around the neck.

         Silver Aussiedoodle

They are so adorable and rare. They may be completely silver or partially silver with blends of brown and black tips. Some black Aussiedoodle may turn to silver from the length of hairs and tips might also remain black.

Tuxedo Aussiedoodles:

  • Black & White Tuxedo: Black Aussiedoodle with white patches on the chest and around the neck just like the tuxedo.
  • Red Tuxedo: Here the red color is most dominant and has a white shirt underneath the red tuxedo.
  • Apricot Tuxedo: It has the same illustration as a black and red tuxedo but with a brown jacket and white shirt inside.

Aussiedoodle Eyes color:

Studies have shown that there are connections between the coats and the Aussiedoodles eyes colors. Really no one can expect to see the same color each time a litter due to the genes in the puppies. It may be blue, brown, umber, black and green. Two eyes may have different colors.

Often times there may be twinkling round in the eyes that offer a bright blue, brown, green, or light amber. The variation in eye color largely depends upon merle genes as they control two traits eye color and coat color.
